Camp Lighthouse · Summer 2026

Another Unforgettable Week at Camp Lighthouse

White canes tapped the pavement with growing confidence. Campers cheered each other on as they experienced the thrill of indoor skydiving. Marshmallows roasted as laughter filled the air and new friendships took shape. Earlier this summer, children and teens who are blind or visually impaired stepped outside their comfort zones, embraced new experiences, and discovered just how much they are capable of accomplishing.

That is what Camp Lighthouse is all about.

A Week Filled with Adventure

This year's campers enjoyed a week filled with adventure and hands-on learning. They experienced horseback riding, cast fishing lines, cooled off in the pool, prepared meals together, and roasted marshmallows while sharing stories and plenty of laughter. One of the week's biggest highlights was a trip to iFLY, where campers experienced the excitement of indoor skydiving in a safe, supportive environment.

A smiling camper in a red flight suit and blue iFLY helmet floats belly-down in the indoor skydiving wind tunnel while an instructor in a red suit steadies her from behind.

Skills They'll Use Long After Camp

Beyond the fun, campers strengthened practical skills they'll use long after camp. They practiced orientation and mobility techniques in real-world settings, including navigating escalators and unfamiliar public spaces with greater confidence. They also explored assistive technology and adaptive tools that promote greater independence at home, in school, and throughout everyday life.

Why Camp Lighthouse Matters

Hosted annually by East Texas Lighthouse, Camp Lighthouse is designed to help young people who are blind or visually impaired build independence, strengthen orientation and mobility skills, develop confidence, and connect with peers who share similar experiences. Every activity is intentionally planned to reinforce life skills while creating the kind of summer memories every child deserves.

Perhaps the most meaningful part of Camp Lighthouse isn't any single activity. It is the confidence that grows with each new experience and the friendships that remind campers they are never alone on their journey.

“This was an amazing experience. Luke left so empowered. He made connections and really embraced his white cane after camp. His cane skills are so much more confident, and so is he.”
— A Camp Lighthouse parent

That transformation is exactly why Camp Lighthouse exists.

Until Next Summer

Carrying It Forward

We celebrate not only the memories that were made this year but the confidence, independence, and lifelong connections that campers will carry with them for years to come.

We are already looking forward to next summer for another unforgettable week of learning, laughter, and life-changing experiences.
